Florida draws two very different groups from California. Retirees want warm winters without California's tax bill, since Florida has no state personal income tax. Working families and remote employees want newer houses, a lower overall cost of living and a booming job market in Orlando, Tampa and South Florida. Both groups face the same practical challenge: one of the longest household moves in the country.

Storm Season

Planning Around Hurricane Season

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with most activity from mid-August into October. That does not mean you cannot move then. It means you should book a flexible delivery window, keep your coordinator's number handy and expect us to hold a shipment safely if a storm closes roads or triggers evacuations.

If you are buying, get your homeowner's insurance lined up before closing. Florida carriers can pause new policies when a named storm is approaching, which can delay your closing and your delivery date.
Condos and HOAs

A Florida Building Checklist

A large share of Florida moves end at a condo tower or a gated, HOA-managed community. These buildings have rules, and missing one can leave a truck waiting at the gate. Ask your building or association about the following at least two weeks before delivery.

  • A certificate of insurance naming the association, which we can provide
  • Service elevator reservation and padding requirements
  • Allowed move-in days and hours, since many buildings ban weekends
  • Gate access lists and where a full-size truck can park
  • Any refundable move-in deposit the association collects

Protecting Your Things

Packing for Heat and Humidity

Clean and dry before packing

Wood, leather and upholstery should go on the truck completely dry. Moisture trapped in plastic is how mildew starts on a humid delivery day.

Use breathable wraps

Our crews use moving pads and paper for most furniture rather than sealing it in plastic for the whole trip.

Keep valuables with you

Jewelry, documents and medication should travel in your car or carry-on, not on the truck.

Plan climate-controlled storage

If you need storage in Florida before closing, ask for climate control. Our storage solutions page explains the options.
